Mystery Quilt

(Sandy Dumstorff.)  Each month we’ll visit a different state as we make a mystery quilt.  Come in a head of time and we’ll help you choose your fabrics.  Bring your machine, a snack to share and get ready for some fun!  Cutting can be done at home or come in an hour early.  Cost includes pattern and fabric.  Borders are extra.  $50 per month.

Learn to Needlepunch

(Sandy Evans)  Needlepunch is so much fun!  This is an easy way to stitch using a needle punch, floss and hooped fabric.   Learn how correctly hoop your fabric, hold and use the needle punch, what threads to use and more.  A great way to use up your stash of floss or try out the beautiful hand-dyed threads we carry!  Thursday, July 10, 1-3 or  6-8 p.m. 

Class is free with the purchase of pattern. 

 

 

Yellow Brick Road

(Ann Meyer) This is a great class for beginners. Learn how to rotary cut and read a pattern.  Or use this as a class to brush up on your cutting and piecing skills.  This is an easy pattern and a great way to put those fat quarters to use!  Monday, July 14, noon-4 p.m.

Machine Quilting for Beginners

(Mary Nordeng)  Learn from the expert how to machine quilt.  This is a great class for the beginner as well as those who need to improve their skills.  Bring your machine for some hands on experience.  Cost $25. Tuesday, July 15, 6-9 p.m. 

 

 

Advanced Machine Quilting

(Mary Nordeng)  This class is for those who want to advance their quilting skills.  Mary will discuss borders, backgrounds, feathers and more.  This class is open to all quilters including those with a long-arm.    This is a demo only class.  Bring note book and pencil.  Mary recently taught at the national long-arm convention and has just published two machine quilting books!  This is a class you won’t want to miss!

Binding Your Quilt

(Sandy Evans)  A quilt isn’t done until the binding is on!  Learn how to measure, cut and sew for perfect results!  A small sample will be done in class.  Monday, July 21, 1-3:30 or 6-8:30.  Cost $15.   

 

 

Think Inside the Box

(Becky Swartz) The optical illusion in this quilt is achieved by giving each box definite dark, medium and light edges.  It’s easier than you think to make with an easy piecing technique!  First session we will talk about fabrics and how to do the cutting.  Come back a week later and we’ll spend our time sewing! Cost $25.  Wednesday, July 16, 10-11 a.m. or 6-7 p.m.

Paper-Pieced Moonlight Lily

 

 

(Betty Lacine)  Paper piecing is like chocolate, you keep wanting one more piece!  Once you understand this upside down and backwards technique the sky is the limit from miniature to larger blocks with perfect accuracy.  Bring your machine for hands-on experience!  Quilt can be made in different sizes.  Thurs. Quilt Your Quilt!

(Pat Drebold) The object of this monthly meeting is to get quilters back to quilting their own projects.  Too often we hear quilters say they don’t know how or where to start quilting.  Pat is an expert long-arm quilter.  With her expertise you will learn about the tools and techniques to help you do a better job of machine quilting!  We’ll talk about what designs might look good, how to baste, what threads to use, etc..  Bring your quilt top to the gathering and everyone will receive help in deciding how and where to quilt.  At each session you will receive 20% off batting and backing to finish your quilt!  Cost $50 for 6 sessions. Thursday, July 31, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, Dec.4, and Jan. 8.  Choose the 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. session.

 

 

Machine Applique

(Sandy Evans) There are so many fun applique patterns that can be done with fusible webbing and a satin stitch.  Learn how to cut and lay out the pattern. We’ll talk about using the right threads and needles to get the perfect satin stitch!  Monday, July 28, 1-3 or 6-9.  Cost $20.

 

 

Lazy Angle Quilt

(Sandy Evans)  Use a strip cutting method and the Lazy Angle Ruler to make this fun yet simple quilt. Tuesday, July 29, 10-1:30 or 6-9.  Cost $25. 

 

 

Holiday Chorus

(Earlene Wickre)  This is a beautiful quilt featuring Andover Fabrics with a winter bird motif that can be constructed in two different sizes (68” x 68” or 87” x 100”).  At the first three sessions you will receive instructions on a different block for the quilt with the fourth and final session to put it all together.  You will learn techniques for bias square units, triangle units, and flying geese units.  You may also choose to make an extra small quilt with the leftover pieces. Patterns are also included for matching pillow cases and a decorative pillow.

So decide on which size you want to make and call to reserve your fabric kit as soon as possbile!   Kit includes pattern and fabric for the quilt top.  The backing is extra.

Serenity Circles

(Sandy Evans) Curves are fun, especially when you are working with some great fabrics!  Cutting is done with a rotary cutter and the Crazy Curve Template.  Class meets Saturday, July 16, 10-4.  Cost $25.

 

 

Deli Purse

(Ann Meyer) This cute little bag can be used as a purse or a lunch bag!  It is lined with pockets and dividers for silverware and cold pack, or just use it as a pretty summer purse.  Class is on Monday, August 11,  1-4 p.m.  Cost $15.

 

 

Sweatshirt Jacket

(Earlene Wickre) This jacket looks as nice with jeans as it does with slacks.  Embellishments can be added and they can be as creative as you are!  The first class will be to help you start your jacket; the second will be finishing techniques.  You will need a sweatshirt one size larger than you normally wear.  Thurs. August 21 and September 18, 1-3:30 or 6-8:30. 

Cost $24.

 

 

Left-Over Leaves

(Earlene Wickre) Sew and flip corners make this quilt's block construction fun and fast. The"leftover" corners become the raw edge, applique leaves that enhance the border. The appliqued border is optional, but it is a great way to "branch out" into the popular art of applique quilting. Designed for advanced beginners and experienced quilters alike! Quilt size is 60" x 72" using twelve 12" blocks. Pattern will be available for purchase with supply list.
Plan to purchase your fabric in advance, wash and iron if desired. Cutting pieces for the block construction prior to the class will help you to accomplish more during the class. Friday, October 3, 10-4

Class Policies

1.  You may register by phone, mail or in person.  Class must be paid for at the time of registration.  Cancellations more than one week before class will forfeit 10% of the class fee.  If cancelling less than one week before class there is no refund.  You may send someone in your place.  We want to give our teachers the courtesy of knowing one week in advance how many students to expect and prepare for.  If we cancel the class there is a full refund. 

2.  Please pick up a supply list before coming to class.  Patterns and supplies are extra unless it says so in the description.  A student discount is given on all supplies needed for classes.  We are happy to help you put together fabrics in colors to match your needs!

3.  If the class requires you to bring a sewing machine, please come early to set up.  We are glad to carry the machine in for you.  Please make sure your machine is in working order.

4.  Please do not bring children to classes unless it is a children's class!.  Also refrain from wearing perfumes to class.  Some of us have allergies!

5.  Most quilting classes only cover piecing the tops.  Take a finishing class to learn quilting and binding techniques. 

6.  This is Minnesota and sometimes it's hard to decide what the weather will do!  If Stewartville or Rochester cancels school, our classes will be canceled (and re-scheduled) as well.
